Interesting blog post here about how negative Auckland public transport forums have become. The forums are utterly filled with people who spend their whole time crying and complaining about everything that’s wrong with Auckland PT – and thinking that this is good tactics. I’ve been told “we can’t tolerate mediocrity” – in other words, we can never allow ourselves to be happy with anything because it takes pressure off people to be perfect. Taking the train from Britomart to Swanson tonight, I was amazed how many AC/DC fans got in asking for a ticket to Western Springs train station. Britomart platform signs clearly mentioned a bus service and Maxx has advertised the arrangements. But still at stops like Newmarket, in came another bunch of suitably attired fans loudly drumming up the adrenaline for their night in concert heaven. NZTA Includes Pedestrian Safety In Plans

Work has begun  on the installation of a new signalised pedestrian crossing at the junction of Broadway and Clovernook Road ,Newmarket to provide a crossing point midway near the post office between the Great South Rd intersection and 277. The interesting thing is that it’s being installed as part of the NZTA’s viaduct replacement project. Submissions Blast Govt Document’s Roading Blindspot

More than 1500 submissions were received on the Government’s Safer Journeys discussion document  - 1300 from individuals from the public – and it’s pleasing to note a general complaint was that the policy was too focused on a “roading business as usual approach.” A common complaint was the blinkers on roading meant the document failed to consider cycling, walking and passenger transport as being “integral parts of the system.” Walking/cycling came across as areas that should be of high priority, instead of medium as listed in the document.
