The Rodney District Council has joined the growing chorus for the new transport body to run Auckland, to be not run behind closed doors with no public input, as the present planned legislation allowed.
But it also has thrown a bizarre curve ball by wanting the ARC transport thinking scrapped and the new super-city council prepare a new transport strategy.
In its submissions to the parliamentary committee hearing the bill, the council said the new Auckland transport body’s meetings should be open to public. It called the criteria for the government to establish a Council Controlled Organisation...

A mentioned earlier today, new Auckland rail and bus fares are imminent and observant reader Andrew has found the train ones on the new Maxx site – if you look for fares from Sunday Feb 21.
They are :
1 stage $1.50 (was $1.40)
2 stage $3.00 (was $2.80)
3 stage $4.00 (was $3.80)
4 stage $5.00 (was $4.80)
5 stage $6.00 (was $5.70)
6 stage $6.60 (was $6.30)
The 10-trip, monthly and other deals and passes are not listed because of the new site layout (there used to be a ‘deals’ section). But at least it gives us an indication.
Well done Andrew!

Memo Maxx: Your revamped website might need a bit of work.
So far, it’s not working well for me.
It’s easy to criticise other websites but one no-brainer golden rule is not to launch or re-launch a site until it’s properly tested and also done some user testing.
So I type in that I want to go from New North Rd to Richmond Rd – the first roads I could think of.
The options come up with a bizarre range of street names or locations starting with A as in ASB and B as in BP stations.
Then as I hold my breath, up comes the answer:

ARTA is launching a ‘Make a change in 2010” campaign to encourage people to consider other transport options.
Run for it!
Last year,an additional 1.8 million trips were made on Auckland public transport and ARTA wants this momentum continued by encouraging everything from train and bus travel to carpooling.
To help, Maxx is running a promotion in which people make a pledge to change and be in to win prizes.
BTW Good to see Maxx has given its website a makeover.
