Final work is being done tonight to remove the train tracks from around Sandringham Rd’s rail network as part of the work to prepare the Auckland train network for electric trains.

From tomorrow and until New Year’s Day, crews will work 24 hours a day around the Sandringham Road rail bridge, just down from Eden Park and near Kingsland.

They will be lowering the tracks beneath that Sandringham Rd rail overbridge to ensure there’s enough clearance  for the electrified overhead wires.

The workers will also be installing new sections of track near George Street – just west of that street.

Later in January, just before the train service returns on January 18, the workers will need to relay the tracks and run the tamper to pack down the area.
