In Remuera, parts of busy St Marks Rd, are closed while important rail work takes place under the shadow of the southern motorway onramp there.
The rail overbridge there was built in the 1920s.
It has to be replaced with a wider bridge as part of the rail electrification programme.
Once complete, the new bridge will allow enough clearance for the electrified overhead wires to run beneath it.
While the bridge is demolished, retaining walls are being built from the track level to the base of the bridge abutments, to support the new structure.
The construction of the bridge, which begins in the next few days, will take an estimated five weeks, by installing precast units.
The project is scheduled to continue until mid – February.
