Kingsland train station, once considered a jewel in the Auckland rail network with its flash multi-million station built for rugby fans attending Eden Park matches, is now getting dug up in parts as it gets its expansion to cope with the expected thousands of Rugby World Cup fans.

Construction of the underpass and platform extensions at both ends have begun and extensive progress can be made  this week while no trains are running.

That work will be followed by pedestrian footpath widening on Sandringham Rd.

Work on the platform extensions will continue until April but the underpass should be finished by the end of the January train holiday period.
