Swanson’s new train station looks like the son of Kingsland.

This new over-bridge at the station will allow access to a new park and ride facility.
Earlier, Swanson, as well as Sturges Rd and Ranui had their platforms rebuilt or extended, as part of preparation for electric trains.
Safety at pedestrian and level crossings in the area was improved and platforms got safety features such as CCTV cameras and yellow lines for the poorly sighted.
Swanson’s station also has a valuable slice of Auckland’s train history. The old weatherboard Avondale station was lovingly moved to Swanson and is now a café in front of the new platform.
This was a wonderful visionary community project, involving a Swanson Station trust and local Residents and Ratepayers. the Waitakere council gave support and finished the adjacent car park and park.
In 1995, the big old graffiti-ed station in Avondale was cut in half, the roof removed and put on the back of a truck and brought to Swanson where it was restored and placed where there had been a bus shelter.

Looks like a good upgrade, any ideas what the timeline is for all the stations e.g. when is Mt Albert planned and Green Lane etc?
Only Mt Albert and Baldwin ave are left to be upgraded on the Western line but I don’t know when they will be done.
Mt Albert should be faily easy but I imagine they would want to move the platforms closer together at Baldwin ave so it would probably cost more.
Not in the immediate queue – Morningside got jumped ahead of Mt Albert. Mt Albert is certainly looking in need of a major revamp.
Mt Albert does really need to be done, but then again the whole mt Albert town centre really needs a spruce up, and this really needs to be done in conjunction with the station revamp. Each project will make the other more viable.
That Swanson station is a lovely building
Looks great! That cafe needs a beer garden for Sunday summer afternoon’s then rail home…
