The next big roading cab off the rack will be the Rotorua Eastern Arterial, for which a new route has been designated since 1963.

Linking to the airport
The project provides a 6 kilometre bypass of State Highway 30 and provides an important link between the city of Rotorua and key infrastructure including Rotorua International Airport, the Port of Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty region.
In a few weeks, NZTA will announce a contract to investigate the route. It has just signed off the funding for that.
That next stage of planning involves extensive site investigations to confirm the planned route, how the project will integrate with current and future land use, and the most appropriate design options and timing for the project.
The Rotorua Eastern Arterial project includes a 6.4km bypass of State Highway 30 Te Ngae Road and improved facilities for buses, cyclists and pedestrians.
Once completed, the project addresses current and future capacity needs on SH30 Te Ngae Road and the surrounding area..
The project will be prepared for the next National Land Transport Programme in 2012, which will prioritise funding for the design and construction phases of the project.
MEAN WHILE NZTA CAN’T FIND $12 MILLION TO RE-OPEN 35KM OF RAILWAY LINE TO CONNECT ROTORUA TO THE REST OF NZ!!
This is madness!!!
