Newmarket train station has now closed its doors after opening for a few hours today to let us look inside.

new colour

It won’t be opening its doors to the public again until its first day of proper operation, Monday January 18, next year.

The biggest job now is outside the station – the laying of the third track through the Newmarket junction over Christmas.

More pictures of the open day are here and photos of the platform are here

Here is an aucklandtrains video of today’s open day and a look inside the new station and platforms. Enjoy!

  1. More performers than visitors?

  2. It is a smart station. I didn’t realise there was a big open square through from Broadway. Something has to be done about the pokey little alley way from Broadway to the station. Shame there weren’t a few more visitors.

  3. Yea I wish I could of made it, unfortunately Saturday is very much a sporting day and I was playing cricket from 11:00am to 6:00pm. Maybe if they did on Sunday they may have had a bigger turn out?

  4. It was poorly advertised, which is sad. Where were the ads at britomart, newmarket stations or on the trains? That’s where people interested in the event were. And it’s also a very busy time of year. Malls were packed.

  5. Pretty av I must say (then again Im used to Melbourne transport) but its great to see progress. Shame about those hideous apartments being built right next it though.

  6. Yep, son of Britomart alright – nice though!
Bit like Hammersmith (London tube or Frankfurt airport too).
