The tender process for Auckland’s electric trains will take almost a year.
KiwiRail has outlined its timetable. It is starting a review of the information that has already been gathered and then get a Request for Tender document into the market place around January. It will award a tender before the end of next year.
While it sounds a long time, the tender process takes this length and it will still enable the trains to come on board in 2013.

As long as we get it right and choose the best option – it should take as long as it needs to within the timing already set out (ie 2013).
