Work at Avondale for the new station and double track work continues at a pace – but it’s eight months away from finishing.

Retaining walls to support the new platforms are appearing and construction of the platforms will continue for about another two months.

The new station itself will open next June, hopefully at the same time as New Lynn’s new station.

Part of the work also involves a new stormwater pipe and improvements to level crossings.

  1. Thanks for these pics. They are really the only way an out of towner can keep up to date.

Why is there such a huge gap between the tracks..?

We couldn’t have thought ahead about triple tracking could we..? If so, where am I..? Am I still in Auckland..?

  3. John Nottage says:

There is a massive gap between the rails because its all in preperation for electrification. Saves having to change the tracks all over again in the near future

  4. LOL probably a lane for buses for when the train system stuffs up.

Nice to see some forward thinking.. unlike the Britomart Centre with it’s two tracks going into it.
